Good Carbohydrates

"Good Carbs" you ask? "Good Carbs" (nee carbohydrates) can easily be defined as the key ingredient that makes your body work properly! "Good Carbs" are easily converted to energy by the body. Glucose is the simplest carbohydrate and is what our brains use for fuel. "Good Carbohydrates" are high in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, but especially, high in fiber.

How do I choose "Good Carbs" you ask? Generally speaking, the best carbs are foods that are unrefined and in their natural state.  What foods fall into the "good carb" category? To put it simply, whole grains, fruits and vegetables are "good carbs"! Better yet, think of good carbohydrates as foods that have not been processed.

One of the best sources for good carbohydrates are vegetables. Vegetables are best in their natural raw state, since cooking of vegetables increases their sugar levels. Vegetables are high in fiber and will help to keep hunger away for longer periods of time than most other foods. Since vegetables have a low glycemic index and will keep your glucose levels even for long periods of time.
